We cannot predict … I called a pastor!

As I finished reading Everyday Missionaries, I had the strong impression come that I needed to go visit the pastor of a Baptist church.

I work next to the church. The very thought of going to share the gospel with the pastor next door caused my heart to quicken.

I was certain there was no way HE would be interested! Then I remembered several things I learned in the book.

  1. We cannot predict and should not judge.
  2. You succeed when you invite, regardless of how it turns out.
  3. My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

I picked up the phone and called the church.

When the pastor answered, I asked him if I could come visit with him. He said that would be fine. Now my heart was really racing.

I knelt in prayer and petitioned God to let me know what to say. I told Him that I wanted to be someone He could trust. I promised to invite people if He would put them in my path during the day. When I finished praying, I left work to walk to the church.

As I came out the front doors of my work, here was a mother walking down the sidewalk with her two children coming towards me. I had the impression come that they were the real reason the Lord had impressed upon my mind to go see the pastor.

God knew this family would be coming when I left work. I struck up a conversation with the three of them. We had a wonderful visit. Soon I found a natural way to bring up religion. I eventually invited her to listen to the missionaries.

I don’t know if their family will embrace the gospel, but I do know that the Lord put them in my path and prepared them for the invitation.

I know I felt the seed of faith begin to grow and swell within.

I felt an increase in faith “that God can actually help you find someone to hear the missionary lessons, if you will do your part” and invite those He puts in your path.

I still went to the church and met with the pastor. I asked him if he could help my son come up with an Eagle project so my son could finish his requirements to become an Eagle Scout.

He referred me to the baseball coach at the high school who was a member of his congregation. He said he needed work done around the baseball field. I made a call to the coach (who is a former pastor), and soon we will begin work on the baseball field. I intend to have my son invite many people who are not of our faith to help with his project.

Thanks for writing Everyday Missionaries. The principles outlined in the book have kindled my desire to be a missionary every day!
